German Theatre Director, Founder, President and Art Director of Ruhr Theatre. From 1972 to 1979, he worked as the Actor Director at the Cologne Theatre. In 1980, in order to be free from the constraints of the state theater system, he founded the Free Ruhr Theater in Mühlheim on the Ruhr together with his colleague Helmut Schaefer at the Cologne Theater. Their debut performance was in 1981 staging Lulu by Frank Wedekind, a pioneer of German Expressionist theatre. To this day, the director Roberto Ciulli, the screenwriter Helmut Schaefer and the stage designer Gralf-Edzard Habben as the Theatre’s management, has been leading their team to produce at least one new play each year that tours the world. Mr. Roberto Ciulli has done a lot of outstanding work over the years, especially in the theatre’s world tour, which has made the Ruhr Theater one of the most prestigious theatres in the world today.
